Bursledon Secondary

The Secondary Primary classroom is home to children from Year 7 to Year 11. There is also the opportunity for children of Secondary age to work within the Primary classroom if that is a more appropriate environment for them.
We are based within Bursledon House for residential children and often have small groups of usually no more than six children. This can be a children from varying school ages or children of similar ages. Work is pitched at the ability of the child with aspirational targets for them to achieve. Attending school within Southampton Children’s Hospital School is a unique opportunity for children to build on their prior understanding and develop key skills with 1:1 support which many children find hugely beneficial. Independence is also encouraged and fostered within our school.
Below is the timetable for an average week within Bursledon Secondary.
Children in KS3 are taught according to a developing curriculum map and KS4 children can bring their own GSCE work into class which teaching staff will support them with.
Children within Bursledon Primary are sometimes afforded the opportunity to go on visits. Prior visits have included the local church, Marwell Zoo and the Nuffield Theatre to see their performance of Fantastic Mr Fox as our Christmas theatre trip. Children in the Secondary and Primary classrooms are also able to work with their peers to develop their cooking skills on one afternoon a week in the adjoining Ronald MacDonald building
