Bursledon House

Welcome to Southampton Hospital School! Hopefully you have already had a chance to look at our classrooms on a visit to Bursledon House, but if not, here is some information about who we are, how we work and what to expect.

When you first arrive at Bursledon House, one of the teachers from the school will meet you and your parents to discuss the important things we need to know about you. Once that has happened, you will then be able to start at school in either the primary or secondary classroom. Our classrooms accommodate up to 5 pupils, and we will ensure that you get to know your fellow classmates quickly, helping you to feel happy and settled in your new environment. We will make sure that the work you do is fun, challenging and in line with what your friends will do dong at school. That way, you won’t fall behind! Another great thing about coming to SHS is that you won’t be marked as being absent from your usual school, so if you are aiming for that attendance award, you can still achieve it!

If you haven’t been at school for a while because you have been ill, please don’t worry! We will help you get used to being in a classroom again and take things at your pace. We won’t make you sit any tests either!

What to Bring

There are a few things that you will need to bring with you to SHS. The first thing is your school uniform as you will wear this during the school day. You may also wish to bring some sensible shoes and clothes for sports activities. It would also be great if you could bring any books you are currently reading. You are welcome to bring anything else that you would normally take to school, such as your favourite pencil case, but we have plenty of equipment here, so it isn’t essential.

Secondary

If you are going to be attending our secondary classroom, then it is useful if you bring any vital classroom materials you are currently using at school. This may include text books, logins for online learning platforms, portfolios for any creative subjects and GCSE work etc. If you have a laptop that you normally use to access online learning platforms, we would suggest you bring this too. We have chrome books you can use, but you may prefer to use the laptop you are more familiar with and that will remember your passwords! We will be able to sort out Wi-Fi access when you arrive.

Primary

If you are going to be in the primary classroom, then it is really good for you to bring your reading book and important that you let your teacher know what level reader you are. If you have any spellings or phonics homework, it might be useful to bring these with you as well. You may also want to bring a waterproof coat and some good outdoor shoes, especially if you are in Reception.
